Ambient Blend Prints

Say, “Goodbye!” to thick and heavy industry standard inks, and say, “Hello!” to our custom-mixed, soft-touch hybrid inks. We make this our standard process, at no additional cost to you. “Why?”, you ask? It’s simple: We take great pride in the quality of our craft, and feel as though you deserve super-soft, vibrant, and breathable prints, at a price that won’t break the bank. We start by laying down a white discharge underbase, then apply our soft-touch hybrid inks above. (Please note that for this process, 100% cotton garments are preferred. Blended fabrics will work, but will yield a slightly less vibrant image. You can learn more about discharge inks, and why this is, below.)

Our Ambient Blend prints have little-to-no feel once washed, even on dark garments. For a print with absolutely no feel, we recommend using water-based or discharge inks. And as always, if you have any questions at all, our resident print nerds are a click or call away from assisting you!

Water-Based Prints

Unlike traditional inks that often yield a thick, potentially undesirable print, water-based inks soak into the garment’s threads, essentially becoming part of the shirt itself. This produces an incredibly soft, breathable, and comfortable print, that practically cannot be felt on the shirt, once washed. Water-based inks are also more environmentally safe than standard plastisol inks, making this a great choice for the eco-conscious individual or organization, events with a focus on sustainability, or anyone looking to go green with their apparel.

Water-based inks aren’t quite as opaque as our standard inks, and will produce a vintage look when printed on dark garments. Because the inks are tinted by the shirt color, we cannot guarantee exact color matching (…though don’t worry, we’ll get awfully close!). And of course, if you need help determining what inks are best for your project, our print nerds would be happy to sort you out!

Discharge Prints

Discharge inks work by removing the dye from the garment, and replacing it with the pigment of your choice. While the shirts are still on-press, and the ink has not yet been cured, a muted, pale color is seen, but after the shirt is sent through the dryer, an incredibly bright and vibrant print is achieved. Similar to water-based inks, discharge prints will have practically no feel once washed, giving your garment a super-soft, high-end look and feel.

Discharge prints work best on 100% cotton garments. When printed on tri-blends (or any polyester-blended fabric), only the cotton will be bleached, leaving you with a faded, vintage-looking print. Certain color garments and brands don’t discharge as well as others, and for this reason, we cannot guarantee exact color matching. Rest assured, we’ll get awfully close!

Plastisol Prints

Plastisol inks can be printed on any type of garment, from synthetic nylon to natural cotton, and sit on top of the threads of the fabric. This creates a thicker, and heavier print than water-based, discharge, or our Ambient Blended inks. Due to their ease of use, and predictability on press, plastisol inks are widely utilized in the industry. They produce vibrant colors, work great for color matching, and are recommended when printing athletic names and numbers. When printing on tri-blends, 50/50 blends, and other garments that do not discharge well, plastisol inks will be used, unless otherwise specified when ordering.

Unlike some traditional plastisol inks, we select plastisol inks that do not contain any harmful PVC’s or phylates, which makes for a more environmentally-friendly product.

Oversized Prints

When our standard print size of 14 inches wide by 17 inches tall isn’t large enough, oversized prints are the way to go. Oversized prints expand your canvas to 20 inches wide by 28 inches tall. With only a slight increase in price per print, this method is a great way to display your brand through a bold, identifiable look.

Over-The-Zipper Prints

Sometimes, the design that best distinguishes your brand from the rest will involve us printing over the zipper on a garment. Whenever printing on uneven surfaces, such as a zipper, print inconsistencies will occur. For this reason, we use a specially cut platen that fits most commercial zippers, to create a flat printing surface, and ensure consistent results. Please note, that because there is some variance from zipper to zipper, cracks or ink buildup can occur. Because of this, it’s always best to print using water-based inks and to do so on garments that are 100% Cotton. We have found, however, that most 80/20 Cotton/Poly blends work great as well.

Full Color CMYK Prints

Often when reproducing a photo-real, full color image, we will rely on CMYK printing. Much like in traditional process printing, in the artwork prep phase, your image is separated into Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black tones. On-press, the colors blend together to create the various shades, tones, and colors of the image. Because the inks are transparent, white or light color shirts work best. Certain dark colored 100% Cotton shirts work as well, but it’s always a good idea to chat with your merch slinger to find out what process will work best for your artwork!

Simulated Process Prints

This process is best utilized when printing full color graphics with high amounts of detail on either white or dark-colored garments. On-press, much like with CMYK printing, the colors blend together to produce unlimited shades of like colors. For example, if your image has red, yellow, and orange tones, simulated process allows you to use just one shade of red and one shade of yellow, to create the orange tones.

Oftentimes, simulated process prints will require at least 5-6 screens, making this method much more cost effective when coupled with larger runs of garments. Because of the complexity of setting up an image for this process, a one time artwork prep fee may apply.

Foil Prints

Get your shine on! This high-end addition to your print is a great way to make your apparel stand out from the rest, and is available in gold, silver, and copper. Foil printing is a two-step process, which involves printing a clear adhesive, and then heat-pressing a sheet of foil onto the shirt. When the foil sheet is removed, Voila: Only the image area remains! Over time, the foil will begin to crack, so we recommend washing the shirts inside-out. We do, however, mix in an ink similar in color to the foil into the underbase, to minimize the look of the image cracking in the future.

Heat Transfer Prints

This is the ideal way to print designs with several variations. For instance, names and numbers on jerseys, or other garments. The process involves cutting the image out of a heat-sensitive vinyl material, and then pressing the image into the shirt. Over time, the vinyl will start to chip away, so we recommend washing the garments inside-out. Another advantage of heat transfer printing is the easy set-up. Because the process doesn’t involve creating a separate screen for each name or graphic, there are no minimums to worry about. We’ll have the whole team looking pro in no time!
